BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Women's Lacrosse dropped a 19-6 decision on Saturday afternoon to Davidson.
Brittany Sherrod helped lead the team on the offensive end as she recorded three points with two of those being goals.
The day got off to a hot start for the Runnin' Bulldogs are they registered the first three goals of the afternoon for the early lead.
Bria Foley scored the first as she picked up the ball after a miss off the post by Sherrod.
Alera Cornett and
Brittany Sherrod then tallied a pair of goals within thirty seconds of each other to increase the margin, both coming off assists by
Jada Preston. Each of these were scored within the first five minutes of regulation.
Davidson started to roll as they got their first goal of the game with 9:06 left on the clock in the first quarter. This was the beginning of a 9-0 scoring run for the visitors that went into the start of the second quarter. An
Emma Duchscherer goal ended the stretch off Preston's third assist of the day. Davidson went on to score more before halftime and took a 13-4 lead into the break.
The Wildcats scored three each in the third and fourth quarters while GWU tallied two in the fourth to close to the game.
Danielle Burke started in goal for Gardner-Webb and collected nine saves in her 60 minutes. She faced 34 shots with 28 of those being directed on goal.
Sherrod was the lone player to record multiple goals as she had two. Duchscherer, Foley, Cornett, and
Lauren Connor each had one. Preston had three assists with Sherrod adding one herself.
Sherrod led the team with groundballs and draw controls with four apiece on the day. Duchscherer and Lobas each recorded two DCs in the effort.
Grace Briggs scooped three GBs, while Burke,
Ella Straub, and
Jayla Middlebrooks had two apiece.
Aimie Perino was the lone GWU player to have multiple caused turnovers as she forced two. Sherrod, Briggs, Straub, and
Victoria Fischetti each had.
Gardner-Webb will be back in action on Wednesday at noon from Spangler Stadium as they will face Robert Morris. The game will conclude a three-game homestand for the Runnin' Bulldogs before traveling to Ohio for a pair of games during spring break with games against Akron (3/12) and Youngstown State (3/14).
