Wofford Knocks off Gardner-Webb 18-12 in Saturday Matchup

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford defeated the visiting Runnin' Bulldogs 18-12 on Saturday afternoon behind a seven-goal stretch between the first and second quarters.
 
The teams traded two-goal spurts in the first quarter with Gardner-Webb netting the first pair. After the first 15, the score stood at 4-4 with Bria Foley playing a part in the first three goals for the 'Dogs of the day.
 
The Terriers claimed their first lead of the game during the second as they scored the first five of the period to cap off a 7-0 run. Jada Preston stopped their stretch off an assist by Foley with the shot clock near zero. Each team scored a couple more with Wofford carrying an 11-6 lead into the halftime break.
 
Foley led the team in scoring as she notched nine points to tie her career-high which she set this past Wednesday. She finished with four goals and five assists in the effort, leading the team in both.
 
Aimie Perino was next on the team as she finished with a hat trick and dished an assist for a four-point day. Preston had three points with a pair of goals and an assist. Emma Duchscherer, Lauren Connor, and Brittany Sherrod each finished with a score while Connor also had an assist.
 
Heather Lobas led the team in GBs and CTs having three and two. GWU had six different players record a draw control during the game with each having at least two apiece. Duchscherer led the effort with four.
 
In cage, Danielle Burke had a season-high in saves as she finished with 14. She played all 60 minutes in the effort as she faced 38 shots during the day.
 
Wofford created their advantages in the game off woman-up opportunities as Gardner-Webb had yellow cards issued to them eight timed during the afternoon.  Sherrod picked up a pair of them in the middle of the second quarter to end her day with hers also being the team's fourth.
 
Gardner-Webb will be back in action as they travel to Presbyterian on Wednesday with a first draw slated for 5:00 p.m.
