Gonzalez Named Conference Freshman of the Week

CHARLOTTE – The Big South Conference announced the winners of the weekly awards on Tuesday morning. They named Rylee Gonzalez as the conference's freshman of the week, her first selection of the season.
Gonzalez scored a career-high in points and assists this past Saturday as she helped lead the team to a near upset at Furman. She notched two goals and three assists in the outing and had a goal in the game to even it back up at 7-7. Then, she dished a pair of assists to cut the Paladins' lead to a one in the final quarter.
On Wednesday, she had a goal and an assist as well. Her two points kickstarted a 4-0 run late in the game that put GWU back in control of the contest at 12-8. She took three shots during the week, putting each one on cage and converting it into a goal.
She is now tied for the second-most assists by a freshman in a single season at Gardner-Webb as she has 12 through 15 games. Gonzalez ranks third on the team in the category and has scored ten goals this season.
Gardner-Webb will be back in action this Wednesday for their home finale as they host Winthrop (0-7) inside Spangler Stadium for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
