Big South Selects Gonzalez as Freshman of the Week for Second Consecutive Time

CHARLOTTE – The Big South Conference selected Rylee Gonzalez as the freshman of the week for the second consecutive week after scoring six points between the two games played last week.
Gonzalez' scored the first goal in the team's 15-10 win over Winthrop on Wednesday, marking the 'Dogs second-ever victory over the Eagles in program history. She notched her second of the day at the end of a GWU 3-0 run that pushed their advantage to 10-7 early in the second half.
On Saturday, she scored in the closing seconds at High Point on a free position shot to give GWU a 6-5 edge going into halftime, Gardner-Webb's first-ever halftime lead over the Panthers. In the second half, she dished a trio of assists, including one on the first goal of that half to give either team their first multi-goal lead of the game. The other pair gave GWU a comeback opportunity in the fourth. She finishes the year with 15 assists after Saturday's outing to have the second-most by a freshman in school history.
Gardner-Webb finished the season with a 3-6 mark in Big South play to finish in a tie for 6th place with Presbyterian in the program's ninth year of existence. The team collected their second-most wins against league opponents in school history during 2023.
