BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. –  The Gardner-Webb softball program and head coach Bailey Wigness announced the 2023 fall exhibition schedule on Tuesday, September 12, including an away matchup with the University of Georgia on October 21.
 
The fall schedule includes five total dates set throughout October with four games at Brinkley Softball Stadium and the road contest against the Bulldogs in Athens, with all of these contests consisting of 10 innings. 
 
Gardner-Webb will host Belmont Abbey College (Oct. 7) to kickstart the fall season followed by matchups with Caldwell Community College (Oct. 8) and Gaston Community College (Oct. 18). After visiting Georgia, the Runnin' Bulldogs will finish off with Anderson University on home turf on Oct. 22.
 
"Our fall schedule is a really good balance for us," said Wigness. "It will give us the opportunity to work on some things both offensively and defensively. We will be able to see how much our returners have progressed, where our newcomers are at, and gauge where we still need to go as a team before the spring. We are playing four of the same teams we played last fall, so we just want to see improvement. We are really excited to start playing again."
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs softball team looks to make strides in their third season under coach Wigness. The 'Dawgs earned three Big South All-Conference spots for the 2023 season in Kasey Fava, Adrienne Visintine, and Annicka McLaughlin. GWU returns 17 letterwinners, locks in four transfers, and welcomes three freshmen to this year's roster.
