Gardner-Webb Earns Draw at Presbyterian

Orr tallies his third goal of the season in draw against Blue Hose

CLINTON, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb University men's soccer team earned a draw in their Big South contest at Presbyterian College. The final score of the match was 1-1. Jaylen Orr scored his third goal of the season for Gardner-Webb.

"I am pretty pleased with the overall performance again from a possession standpoint.", said coach Wells. "We were very good. We created a lot of chances, and we were able to score and get back in the game after giving up a difficult goal. So, you have to admire the fight, and finally we get points on the board in conference play so that is really going to spearhead us into next week."

The match remained scoreless in the first 45 minutes. Damorney Hutchinson scored in the 59th minute to give the Blue Hose the lead. The Runnin' Bulldogs answered with a strike of their own in the 75th minute as sophomore forward Jaylen Orr scored his third goal of the season to tie the match. He was assisted by Kaelen Debbage. At the end of 90 minutes the score remained 1-1. Santiago Hoyos and Caio Hughes also generated shots on the goal for GWU.

"Jaylen Orr has been a fantastic impact guy off the bench this season.", coach Wells added. "He's meant to be. You need to get him into a position where he can perform like that as a starter because he deserves to start. He's been knocking on the door for that opportunity. We are really impressed with him this season. He's definitely been a difference maker for us. That's his third goal, so we are really happy for him."

The Runnin' Bulldogs will continue Big South play on Friday, Oct. 6 when they host UNC Asheville. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
