WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Gardner-Webb University wrestling team returned from an over two-week break on Sunday afternoon, competing in the Black Knight Invitational hosted by Army

Redshirt freshman Takeo Davis posted a brilliant individual day for Gardner-Webb in the 133 pound weight class. Davis skipped by Gary Steen of Penn State by an 8-5 decision in his quarterfinal match, then scored a second win in the semifinals, taking down Tristan Lujan of Michigan State by 11-4 decision. The Rockmart, Ga. native would come up just short in the finals against nationally ranked Ethan Berginc of Army, falling 9-6.

Graduate student Todd Carter was a second Runnin' Bulldogs athlete to make a final round on Sunday, doing so in the 141 pound division. Carter would have to go one round further, beginning with a Round of 16 victory over Sean Larkin of Michigan State by 6-2 decision. From there, Carter then scored a quarterfinal victory over Ryan Franco of Army by 9-0 major decision and a semifinal win over Braden Basile, also of Army, by 5-2 sudden victory. The Blackshear, Ga. native saw his day end by fault against Beau Bartlett of Penn State.

Making a semifinal run for Gardner-Webb was sophomore Drew Pepin. Despite a tech fall ending his day against Alex Facundo of Penn State in the 157 pound class, wins over Braden Stauffenber of Michigan State by 5-2 decision, Tyler Barrett of Columbia by 2-0 decision and Taythan Silva of Army by fault saw Pepin leave from one of his best weekends in Runnin' Bulldogs colors this season, making a run from the Round of 32.

In the 197 pound class, junior Josh McCutchen also scored a win for Gardner-Webb. The Fitzgerald, Ga. native defeated Eli Pack of Army by 7-0 decision in a Round of 32 bout.

Furthermore, in the 174 pound division, senior Andrew Wilson scored a Round of 32 win for Gardner-Webb. Wilson defeated Donavan Smith of LIU by 9-7 decision.
