Hawkins Named Big South Player of The Week Following Record-Breaking Performance

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Following her record-breaking 47 point performance last Friday afternoon against Queens, senior guard Ashley Hawkins of the Gardner-Webb University women's basketball team has been named the Big South Conference Player of The Week, per release from the league office.

Across two games, a road game at Hampton on December 17th and a home game versus Queens on December 20th, Hawkins averaged 32 points per game, next to six rebounds and four assists per contest. In the Hampton game, Hawkins led GWU with 17 points, pulled down six rebounds, dished out three assists and hit all six free throws in 35 minutes. After one solid performance, Hawkins then exploded to rewrite the school and conference record books her next time out. Against Queens, the Long Beach, Calif. native scored a Gardner-Webb and Big South record 47 points, dished out five assists, pulled down six rebounds, and recorded six steals in 52 minutes while knocking down 15 field goals and 14 free throws. Hawkins performance against Queens on Friday afternoon also marks the most points scored by a single player in women's college basketball this season.
