GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's lacrosse was bested in their Wednesday afternoon game at East Carolina University by a final score of 17-6. The Runnin' Bulldogs scored six goals on 16 shots.
"To see growth from our first game in such a short period of time is exactly what I wanted out of today.", said coach Mirgon Crum. "The team and I are on the same page - it is clear where we need to continue to focus our efforts and we are proud of where we are headed culturally. ECU was shifty, and threw a lot of shots our way. Our freshman keeper really helped hold it down for us on the D end in the first half specially, 9 saves."
Gardner-Webb built an early 3-1 lead in the first quarter thanks to goals from
Emma Duchscherer,
Brittany Sherrod, and
Aimie Perino. Sherrod went on to tally one more the 'Dawgs in the first half. The Pirates began to take control early in the second half building a large lead of their own. Perino scored a second in the third quarter, and
Rebecca Ferrina found the back of the net for GWU with 6:40 left in the game. ECU came out on top 17-6. Two games into the season Duchscherer and Perino lead the Runnin' Bulldogs with three goals each.
GWU returns to the field of Wednesday, Feb. 21 on the road at Kennesaw State University for a 5:00 p.m. first draw.
