KENNESAW, Ga. – The Gardner-Webb University women's lacrosse was bested in their Wednesday evening game at Kennesaw State University by a final score of 28-17. It was the highest scoring game thus far on the season for the 'Dawgs.
"We are celebrating the small wins amidst that game and are proud of where we are at.", said coach Mirgon Crum. "It was exciting to watch us put up 17, and it was special to see our #3,
Emma Meyer be so successful on the draw circle as it is a new position for her up there. We will continue to keep our heads up in hard times and down in success - back to work for our next opportunity on Sunday vs George Mason."
Gardner-Webb kept pace with KSU's six goals in the first quarter with scoring a trio thanks to
Brittany Sherrod,
Rebecca Ferrina, and
Ella Currey. The close of the second half saw the Owls leading 14-7 with the Runnin' Bulldogs four more in the period. Ferrina found the back of the net three more times as did
Jamie Weber. Gardner-Webb began to put the pressure on the third quarter recording six goals and at one point pulling within five with Sherrod netting a pair along with
Alera Cornett.
Victoria Fischetti and Amie Perino added a goal each. Kennesaw State kept their foot on the gas in the fourth quarter to close it out. Perino tallied two more while Sherrod and Ferrina each also added another to bring the final to 28-17.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to Spangler Stadium on Sunday, Feb, 25 for a 12:00 p.m. first draw against George Mason University.
