Runnin’ Bulldogs Win Two to Complete Weekend Sweep of Manhattan

Gardner-Webb wins via a 3-2 walk off and 7-4 against the Jaspers

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University baseball team completed a four-game weekend sweep of the Manhattan College Jaspers on Sunday winning both games of a doubleheader. The 'Dawgs won the first game 3-2 via walk off, and second 7-4. Game one was seven innings while game two was a full nine innings.

The first game saw Gardner-Webb take a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Ethan Liao hit a sac fly to score Humberto Torres. Manhattan scored their only two runs of the ballgame in the third frame. Liao tied it for the 'Dawgs in the sixth driving home Ryan Kennell. Following a single by Alec Burns in the seventh, he was subbed out for pinch runner Ethan Rossow. Setting the stage for Peter Capobianco to bring him home with a walk off single up the middle.

Game two remained scoreless until the third inning with each squad getting a run on the board. The Runnin' Bulldogs began to gradually build a lead from the fourth inning on with a homerun and a double to go up 3-1. GWU tallied three more in the fifth starting with Mark Black drawing a bases loaded walk to score Tommy Tavarez. Another single in the fifth, followed by one in the ninth gave the 'Dawgs a 7-1 lead going into the eighth. Despite the Jaspers putting up three in the eighth inning, Creighton Hansen closed it down earning the save.
