Gardner-Webb Drops First of Three to USC Upstate

Runnin’ Bulldogs tally six runs in loss to the Spartans

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb University baseball team opened Big South play on Friday evening against the University of South Carolina Upstate Spartans falling 4-0. The Runnin' Bulldogs tallied six hits ultimately dropping the series opener.
 
The game was a pitchers dual sailing along until the bottom of the sixth inning as the Spartans strung together a pair of singles and a double to go up 3-0 on GWU. Upstate added one more insurance run on a wild pitch in the eighth inning. Blake Brogdan went 5.2 innings for the 'Dawgs recording three K's. Wade Kelly, Mark Black, Alec Burns, Humberto Torres, Tommy Tavarez, and Ethan Liao picked up hits for Gardner-Webb.
 
Gardner-Webb will return continue this three-game set with the Spartans on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
