BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University baseball team dropped their three-game series opener with Presbyterian College by a final score of 6-2. The Runnin' Bulldogs tallied two runs on five hits in the late innings in loss to PC.
Presbyterian tallied one in the first, and another in the third carrying a 2-0 lead into the fifth inning. They then put up four in the top of the fifth on a pair of 2 RBI singles.
Gardner-Webb was able to chip into the lead in the later frames scoring one on a fielder's choice in the seventh bringing home
Humberto Torres, and another in the ninth with
Matt Ilgenfritz doubling to also score Torres. Presbyterian recorded the final outs to win it. PC's Daniel Eagen picked up the win, and GWU's
Bryan Pazos tallied the loss.
Gardner-Webb will return to the field on Friday, March 28 continuing their series with Presbyterian at 3:00 p.m.
