Gardner-Webb Comes from Behind to Beat Manhattan in 6-5 Walk Off

Runnin’ Bulldogs score three runs in the ninth to defeat the Jaspers

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University baseball team bested the Jaspers of Manhattan College on Saturday evening coming back from down two late win 6-5 on a walk off single. The Runnin' Bulldogs tallied the three game winning runs in the bottom of the ninth.
 
The Jaspers got out to a three-run lead in the first frame of the game on some small ball followed by a two-run homer. Alec Burns got the 'Dawgs on the board in the bottom of the third homering to left field also scoring Ethan Rossow. Mark Black followed that up in the fourth hitting a single shot to left tying the game at three. Manhattan scored on singles in the eighth and ninth innings to take a 5-3 lead. Down a pair the Runnin' Bulldogs got to work in the final frame loading the base for Wade Kelly to reach home on a put out making it 5-4. Ethan Liao then doubled to left center scoring Peter Capobianco and Tommy Tavarez winning the game for GWU.
 
Gardner-Webb will play a doubleheader against Manhattan on Sunday, March 10. The first game will be seven innings and will begin at 12:00 p.m. followed by a full nine-inning game.
