CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb University baseball team fell in their series finale at Charleston Southern University on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 8-7 in the 10
th inning.
Following a
Tommy Tavarez double, an
Alec Burns double, and
Mark Black home run all in the third inning, GWU led the ballgame 5-0. Charleston Southern got one across in the bottom frame.
Wade Kelly put the 'Dawgs back up by five reaching home on an error at shortstop.
The Buccaneers went on the score three in the fifth, two in the seventh, and another in the eighth to take a 7-6 lead over Gardner-Webb. The Runnin' Bulldogs battled and were able to tie the game 7-7 in the ninth with Black doubling to score Tavarez.
CSU came out on top in the bottom of the extra frame hitting a walk off single with two on base. Devin Macwatters got the win, and
Devin Pressley the loss.
Gardner-Webb will return to the field on Tuesday, April 16 for a game on the road at Duke University at 6:00 p.m.
