RADFORD, Va. – The Gardner-Webb University women's lacrosse team fell in their midweek Big South contest at Radford University by a final score of 16-6. The Runnin' Bulldogs cut into the Radford lead with five second half goals despite the loss.
Radford put up an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter.
Ella Currey scored GWU's first goal off an assist from
Emma Duchscherer at the 11:55 minute mark. The Highlanders went on to score six in the first and three in the second to take an eight-goal lead into the break.
Gardner-Webb opened the second half with their second goal of the game as
Taylor Tobin found the back of the net with 13:04 left in the third. Radford went on a three-goal run before the 'Dawgs scored their third with
Reese Jones tallying her first goal of the season late in the third.
Following another Highlander goal to start the fourth, GWU scored three straight with
Rebecca Ferrina,
Brittany Sherrod, and Duchscherer all finding the back of the net. RU scored one more prior to the final horn.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return the field on Saturday, April 20 to host Wofford College at 1:00 p.m. Saturday's game is also Senior Day.
