BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University baseball team dropped the opener of their three-game Big South series against Longwood University on Friday afternoon by a final score of 10-4.
The Lancers got five runs across in the first frame of the ballgame. Gardner-Webb chipped back into the 5-0 lead in the second inning with a solo shot from
Peter Capobianco and a two-run homer from
Matt Ilgenfritz. GWU tallied one more in the third inning with
Humberto Torres coming into to score on a hit batter with the bases loaded making it 5-4.
Longwood went on to score two in the seventh and three more in the eighth. LU's Sean Gibbons got the win, and
Noah Arnett the loss.
Gardner-Webb will return to the field on Saturday, April 20 to continue their series with Longwood University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
