BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University baseball team dropped their mid-week meeting against Western Carolina University on Tuesday night by a final score of 6-4. The 'Dawgs scored four runs on six hits.
The game remained scoreless until the Catamounts broke through with a single in the third and another in the fourth on a throwing error.
Gardner-Webb was able to get two across to tie the game in the fourth with a pair of walks with the bases loaded. WCU took control putting up a four spot in the fifth inning on a two-run homer, a single and a hit batter.
The Runnin' Bulldogs struck for two more before the final out with Pete Capobianco scoring
Max Smyley on a sac fly in the sixth, and
Tommy Tavarez reaching home on a wild pitch in the ninth.
WCU's Ryan White got the win, and GWU's
Creighton Hansen tallied the loss.
Gardner-Webb will return to the field on Wednesday, April 3 for a road matchup with North Carolina A&T. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
