CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University baseball team dropped their midweek game at the #15 ranked University of North Carolina on Tuesday night by a final score of 5-2. The Runnin' Bulldogs put up two early runs before the Tar Heels chipped away to regain and keep the lead.
GWU struck first in the ballgame with
Mark Black singling to left field in the top of the third allowing
Gavin Johnson to reach home.
Alec Burns then hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring
Ryan Kennell from third base.
In the fifth inning the Tar Heels began their comeback tying the game with a double and a single. UNC went on to take a 3-2 lead on a sac fly in the sixth, and scored two more insurance runs in the seventh inning.
The 'Dawgs will return to the field on Friday, April 26 at Radford University for the first of a three-game conference series. The first pitch of game one will be at 6:00 p.m.
