BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University baseball team earned a five-run victory over Big South opponent High Point University on Friday winning game two of the series 8-3.
Alec Burns scored four on a pair of two-run home runs.
Burns got the 'Dawgs on the board first with his first homer in the first inning making it 2-0.
High Point tied the game at two in the top of the third with a two-run single.
Max Smyley took the lead back for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the fourth with a single bringing home
Mark Black. Burns then followed it up in the fifth with his second two-run shot making it 5-2 'Dawgs.
The Panthers scored their final run of the ballgame in the sixth inning via a solo shot to left.
Gardner-Webb scored three more insurance runs in the seventh inning as
Ethan Liao brought home
Lawson Knight with a single,
Peter Capobianco drew a walk with the bases loaded, and Black brought home Liao with a ground out.
CJ Czerwinski tallied the win, and Brett Woznak the loss.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will finish their series against HPU on Saturday, May 18 at 10:00 a.m.
