Boyer Collects Top-10 Finish at River Run Intercollegiate

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Junior Jack Boyer posted a 36-hole score of 145 (+1) over two days at the River Run Collegiate, finishing 7th overall, while the Gardner-Webb University men's golf team took home 8th place with a two-round combined team score of 604 (+28).
In a weather-shortened tournament, Boyer opened the week with a solid score of 73 (+1) before recording an even-par 72 over the final 18 holes. The Greensboro, N.C. native finished his two rounds with 23 pars and six birdies.
As a team, the Runnin' Bulldogs finished eighth overall, carding a 28-over, 604 two-round score. The 'Dawgs finished above Le Moyne, Yale, and conference foe High Point in their first tournament of the fall.
Freshman Will Spicer, in his first collegiate tournament, turned in a solid performance with a top-20 finish. Spicer recorded a 1-under, 71 in round one before finishing the day with a 6-over 78, combining for a 149 (+5).
Sophomore Pattrasuth Boonthrumrongkit took home 36th place with a two-round total of 153 (+9). In his first round, the Thailand native posted a 79 (+7) before shaving five strokes off his score while carding a 74 (+2) over the final 18.
Finishing not far behind Boonthrumrongkit in 41st was freshman Reed Burton. Burton also posted a 79 (+7) in round one while picking up the pace and finishing the tournament with a 75 (+3). His two-round total came out to be 154 (+10).
Sophomore Jack Mikesell ended the two rounds in a tie for 46th after carding a 36-hole total of 155 (+11). After shooting a 4-over, 76 in round one, Mikesell rounded out the scoring with a 7-over, 79.
Graduate Mark Chandler posted rounds of 81 (+9) and 79 (+7) for a combined score of 160 (+16), finishing in 58th place.
Rounding out the performers for the Runnin' Bulldogs was senior Martin Frerot. After firing a tough 86 (+14) in round one, Frerot made a drastic improvement, shaving 11 strokes off his first 18 score while carding a 75 (+3) in round two.
Following a two-week hiatus, Gardner-Webb will return to the links as it travels to Greenville, N.C. to take part in the ECU Intercollegiate, hosted by East Carolina University on September 30-October 1.
