BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Junior placekicker Charlie Viorel of the Gardner-Webb football team has been selected as the OVC-Big South Special Teams Player of the Week following his 12-point performance in a 30-27 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday, October 4.
Viorel started the scoring for the Runnin' Bulldogs with a 38-yard field goal before knocking through a trio of extra points following scoring drives by the GWU offense. He wrapped up his day with makes from 43 and 48 yards, respectively, the latter being the game-winner as time expired.
He also added five kickoffs for 308 yards, averaging 61.6 yards per kick to go along with one touchback.
Gardner-Webb will return to the field on Saturday, October 11, traveling to Charleston, Ill. for a date with the Panthers of Eastern Illinois. Kick is set for 3:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
