Lacrosse Drops 15-4 Contest at George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Gardner-Webb (0-2) women's lacrosse team was upended 15-4 at George Mason on Friday afternoon inside of George Mason Stadium.

The Runnin' Bulldogs received goals from four different scorers during the contest while junior Emma Meyer led the defensive efforts with five groundballs and two caused turnovers. Senior Kyla Pascucci also provided a pair of caused turnovers.

After George Mason went ahead 1-0, senior Rebecca Ferrina notched her first score of the season at the 10:17 mark of the opening quarter, knotting the contest 1-all. However, the Patriots came back with three in a row before rookie Alexis Block ripped her first collegiate goal late in the period, trimming the deficit to 4-2.

From that point, George Mason went on a 5-0 scoring run while extending its lead to 9-2 with five minutes left before halftime. Freshman Ella Grace Bishop was able to connect on the first goal of her career with 3:16 on the clock, but it would be GMU leading 10-3 at the break.

The Patriots opened the second half with the game's next five goals, pushing out to their largest lead of the contest, 15-3, late in the fourth. Freshman Katie Westbrook connected on a man-up goal with 20 ticks left, leaving the final score at 15-4 in favor of George Mason.

Gardner-Webb will open the home portion of its schedule on Sunday, February 16, playing host to Old Dominion. First draw is slated for 12 p.m. inside Spangler Stadium.
