BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Freshman attack
Ella Grace Bishop netted her first career hat trick, turning in three goals, but it was not enough as the Gardner-Webb (0-4) women's lacrosse team was beaten 17-5 by visiting Kennesaw State (2-3) on Wednesday afternoon inside Spangler Stadium.
The Owls started the contest with the initial seven goals before junior midfielder
Emma Duchscherer put the 'Dawgs on the board late in the period. Marleigh Belinfanti added another score for KSU, but Bishop answered that with her first of the game at the 12:52 mark of the second period.
After Kennesaw State posted the next three goals, Bishop struck again, cutting the deficit to 11-3 before the Owls tacked on a late goal to take a 12-3 lead into the halftime break.
Kennesaw State opened the second half with a score, but Duchscherer and Bishop went back-to-back while narrowing the deficit to 13-5. However, that would be the last goa, scored by the Runnin' Bulldogs as KSU scored the game's final four goals on its way to a 17-5 win.
Gardner-Webb will return to action on Friday, February 21 as it plays host to Coastal Carolina in non-conference action inside Spangler Stadium. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
