Track and Field Competes in Davidson Relays and SWU Gotta Run Invite Split Squad Action

DAVIDSON, N.C. & CENTRAL, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb University track and field teams returned to action on Saturday afternoon, competing in the single-day Davidson Relays and Southern Wesleyan Gotta Run Invite as part of a split-squad 

Senior Noah Meadows began the day for GWU wih a strong run in the men's 100 meters. Meadows placed seventh in 10.70 seconds.

The women's 100 meters proved to be a strong event for Gardner-Webb with a pair of top ten finishes. Sophomore Anna Spencer was second in a blistering 11.86 seconds, while junior Jada Pittman was seventh in 12.23 seconds. Furthermore, Spencer was second in the women's 200 meters in 24.48 seconds, next to teammate freshman Hope Smith who was seventh in 25.38 seconds.

Senior Teryn Bour continued a string of solid runs for Gardner-Webb, placing third in the women's 400 meters with a time of 57.69 seconds. GWU also nabbed eighth place with Gabrielle Comery finishing the race in 1:00.35

Gardner-Webb saw sophomore Kaden Pratt set a new personal-best in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase. Pratt completed the event in 10:20.17, good enough for an individual record and third place.

The women's steeplechase proved to be strong for the 'Dawgs, with freshman Emily Leatherman posting one of her best results of outdoor season. Leatherman placed second with a total time of 11:58.40

Big South Indoor champ Teandra Clemons was back in action on Saturday, competing in the women's high jump. With a distance of 1.60 meters, Clemons was back on top of the podium and in first place.

Senior Adrionna Coleman grabbed a very narrow win in the women's shot put event. Coleman took the top spot with a distance of 11.89 meters, just ahead of second place from Benedict College with 11.88 meters. Coleman was also third in women's discuss by way of 39.99 meters.

GWU took second and third in the men's shot put. Freshman Magnum Chestnut came second with a distance of 13.69 meters, while senior Luke Gordy was third with a distance of 13.47 meters on the board.

Gardner-Webb also went 1-2 in the men's discuss event. Junior Quentin Peterson continued a stellar year with a win by way of 53.43 meters, while sophomore Devin Redd was runner-up with 46.21 meters recorded. Peterson also took a victory in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 59.58 meters.

Lastly, Gardner-Webb took first in the women's 4x100 meter relay. The quartet of Spencer, Pittman, Smith and senior Deborah Marlow crossed the stripe in 46.21 seconds to take the win.
