CLINTON, S.C. – Junior Emma Duchscherer and freshman Katie Westbrook netted three goals each as the Gardner-Webb (2-11, 2-3) women's lacrosse team picked up its second win of the season after taking down Presbyterian (4-10, 1-4) by the final of 8-5 on Saturday afternoon at Bailey Memorial Stadium.
The Runnin' Bulldogs tallied 19 shots on the afternoon, 16 of which were on cage while forcing PC into 18 turnovers. Sophomore keeper Emma Anderson was clutch in goal for GWU, picking up 12 saves.
Gardner-Webb wasted no time taking the lead against the Blue Hose as redshirt-senior Rebecca Ferrina posted the first goal of the game just over a minute into the opening period after a beautiful find by Ducscherer at the 13:49 mark.
That lead doubled after Duchscherer called her own number two minutes later following a turnover on PC. The Blue Hose cut the deficit in half with their first goal of the game, but Gardner-Webb opened the flood gates with the final five goals of the half, taking a commanding 7-1 advantage into the break.
During the scoring outburst, three different players found the back of the net, including two each from Westbrook and Duchscherer and one out of the stick of freshman Ella Grace Bishop.
After Presbyterian snapped the streak with the first goal of the third quarter, Westbrook secured her hat trick with an unassisted score with a little over five minutes remaining in the frame.
The Blue Hose attempted a bit of a comeback, notching the final goal of the third and the only two goals of the fourth, but it was proven to be too little, too late as Anderson came up big in net, leading the 'Dawgs to an 8-5 conference road win.
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Wednesday, April 16 as it plays host the Eagles of Winthrop at 4 p.m. inside Spangler Stadium.
