ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb University track and field team returned to action on Saturday afternoon in Rock Hill, competing among the top finishing positions in day two of the WUPax Invitational at Winthrop
Gardner-Webb started strong, taking first and third in the men's 5000 meter race. Sophomore
Kaden Pratt won the event in 16:28, including a 1:14.93 split, while
John Marsh was third with a time of 17:21
The Runnin' Bulldogs were excellent in the women's 400 meters, taking four of the top five finishing positions. Senior
Teryn Bour won the event in 56.63 seconds, with teammate sophomore
Anna Spencer just behind in second after a time of 57.39 seconds. Junior
Jessica Perriello continued a good weekend in fourth with a time of 59.43 seconds, while freshman
Gabrielle Comery came fifth, crossing the line in 59.44 seconds.
GWU was led by
Isa van Sintemaartensdijk in the women's 100 meter hurdles. van Sintemaartensdijk came across the line after 15.39 seconds, taking home fifth place. She'd also compete in the women's 200 meters a little while later, taking home ninth in 26.38 seconds, while Comery came sixth in 25.97 seconds, and freshman
Hope Smith led the way in 25.90 seconds, placing fourth for Gardner-Webb
Freshman Megan Devanny added to the strong finishes for Gardner-Webb in the women's 1500 meters. Devanny finished just shy of the top of the leaderboard, scoring second place with a time of 5:00.74
Noah Meadows stared for the GWU men on Saturday, with a first place run in the men's 200 meters. Meadows just narrowly won the event, recording a time of 21.68 seconds to beat out his competition from Winthrop by .04 seconds.
After a strong showing on Friday, senior
Selah Holcombe was back for the women's discuss event. Holcombe placed sixth on Saturday, recording a distance of 34.76 meters.
In men's discuss, the Runnin' Bulldogs grabbed third and fourth. In third was senior
Luke Gordy with a distance of 40.41 meters, while Madison Breeland was just behind in fourth with 39.68 meters.
Gardner-Webb was also stout in men's shot put with two top finishers. Freshman
Magnum Chesnut was second at 14.75 meters, while Madison also stepped back into action and finished third at 14.07 meters.
GWU Track and Field returns to action on April 25th and 26th, visiting Western Carolina for the Catamount Classic. The Runnin' Bulldogs will then take part in the Duke Twilight Meet on May 4th, the final competition before the Big South Outdoor Championships, beginning on May 12th
