HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb (1-11, 1-3) women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-2 contest at league-leading High Point (9-4, 5-0) on Wednesday afternoon inside Vert Stadium.
Rebecca Ferrina led the way for the Runnin' Bulldogs, posting the only two scores of the contest for GWU while Emma Duchscherer and Ella Grace Bishop added two shots each on the day.
After HPU scored the game's first four goals, Ferrina tallied her fifth goal of the season at the 3:37 mark of the opening period, trimming the deficit to 4-1. However, the Panthers used an 8-0 scoring run over the remainder of the first and majority of the second while ballooning the lead to 12-1. Ferrina netted her second goal of the game with 10 seconds left on the first half clock after a nice assist from Alexis Block.
However, the second half belonged solely to High Point as the Panthers outscored Gardner-Webb 9-0 over the final 15 minutes on their way to a 21-2 win in Big South action.
Gardner-Webb returns to the field on Saturday, April 12, traveling to Clinton, S.C. to face the Blue Hose of Presbyterian at 1 p.m.
