CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb volleyball's Parker LaFontaine has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
LaFontaine becomes the second Runnin' Bulldogs freshman to earn the honor this season, joining Peyton Slone, who received the recognition on Sept. 8. She put together a strong weekend for Gardner-Webb, totaling 17 kills across a pair of conference road matches against High Point and Radford.
The freshman opened the weekend with five kills while hitting .231 in Gardner-Webb's four-set match at High Point on Friday.
LaFontaine followed with an impressive performance Saturday at Radford, leading the Runnin' Bulldogs with 12 kills on 19 attacks while committing just one error for a .579 hitting percentage. She also added three digs and a block assist as Gardner-Webb pushed the Highlanders to five sets.
Gardner-Webb returns home Friday, Oct. 16, to host USC Upstate. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Paul Porter Arena.
