Runnin' Bulldogs Fourth Quarter Push Comes Up Short Against Quinnipiac

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb (0-7) women's lacrosse battled throughout Friday afternoon but ultimately fell to the visiting Quinnipiac (4-3), 14–9, at Spangler Stadium.

The Runnin' Bulldogs came out aggressive early. Jules Brown opened the scoring just 1:25 into the contest to give Gardner-Webb the early lead. Addi Cook later found the back of the net off an assist from Emma Duchscherer to put the Runnin' Bulldogs ahead 2–1 midway through the opening quarter.

Quinnipiac answered with a late run, scoring twice in the final minutes of the first quarter to take a 3–2 lead after one.

The Bobcats extended their lead in the second quarter with four goals, but Gardner-Webb continued to generate opportunities. Maddie Tredway converted a man-up opportunity off a Cook assist to keep the Runnin' Bulldogs within striking distance. At halftime, Quinnipiac held a 7–3 advantage.

Tredway struck again early in the third quarter to trim the deficit to three, but the Bobcats responded with another scoring run to push the lead to 11–4 heading into the final period.

Gardner-Webb refused to go away in the fourth quarter. Jazmyn Morris scored twice in the opening minutes of the frame, including a man-up goal assisted by Alexandria Starke. Tredway added her third goal of the afternoon midway through the quarter, and Brown followed with another man-up score.

McKensie Gehris capped the Bulldogs' late push with a free-position goal in the final two minutes, closing the scoring at 14–9.

Tredway led the Dawgs with three goals and a career-high 18 draw controls while Morris and Brown added two goals each. Emma Anderson played all 60 minutes in goal, collecting nine saves.

The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, March 18, traveling to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on Florida State. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
