CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb (13-11, 3-3) baseball team wrapped up a three-game series at Charleston Southern (16-6, 2-1) with a 14-4 loss on Sunday afternoon at Nielsen Field.
Allan Camarillo led the charge with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, while Drew Ripepi also added three hits in a strong showing. Anthony Hausner chipped in with two hits and an RBI, and Matt Ilgenfritz provided an early spark with a solo home run in the fourth inning to put the Runnin' Bulldogs on the board.
After Charleston Southern took a 2-0 lead in the second, Ilgenfritz's homer cut the deficit in half and gave Gardner-Webb momentum. The Runnin' Bulldogs continued to threaten, but a decisive fourth inning from the Buccaneers shifted the game.
Charleston Southern plated eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to open up a 10-1 advantage, capitalizing on timely hitting and a series of hit batters to break the game open.
Gardner-Webb continued to fight, answering with two runs in the sixth inning. Diego Guevara delivered an RBI single as part of the rally, and the Runnin' Bulldogs added another run in the seventh on an RBI knock from Hausner to make it 13-4.
Joe Stanzione also contributed off the bench with a double and later scored, highlighting the Runnin' Bulldogs' depth offensively.
On the mound, Reid Bertram was tagged with the loss after Charleston Southern's fourth-inning outburst. The bullpen saw multiple arms contribute, with Brendan Lysik providing a scoreless inning in relief.
