BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Gardner-Webb (17-20) baseball erupted for six runs in the opening inning and never looked back, cruising to an 11–1 victory over Queens (10-26) on Tuesday evening at John Henry Moss Stadium.
Gardner-Webb wasted no time setting the tone. The Runnin' Bulldogs sent nine hitters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning and scored six runs on four hits while also taking advantage of walks and hit batters. Merik Carter highlighted the inning with a sacrifice fly and later added a double, finishing with two runs scored. Kelvin Agosto delivered a key two-run double during the frame as the Dawgs quickly built a commanding early lead.
The Runnin' Bulldogs continued to add on throughout the night. Gardner-Webb plated two more runs in the third inning and tacked on single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to stretch the advantage to ten. Allan Camarillo drove in two runs with a pair of hits, while Ryan Kennell and Daniel Smith each recorded RBI hits. Behind aggressive baserunning, the Runnin' Bulldogs also swiped six bases during the game to keep pressure on the Royals' defense.
On the mound, Anthony Hausner delivered a strong start for the Dawgs. The right-hander worked five innings, allowing just four hits and one unearned run while striking out four to earn the win. Josh Gentile closed the game with two scoreless innings of relief, allowing no hits and striking out one.
Gardner-Webb finished the night with 11 runs on 11 hits, led by multi-hit performances from Kennell, Agosto, and Camarillo.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to action on April 17-19 as they head to Virginia to face the Highlanders of Radford University in a three-game Big South series. Friday night's opening game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
