Softball Falls in Series Finale Doubleheader at Radford

RADFORD, VA - The Gardner-Webb softball team (26-22, 5-10 Big South) dropped both ends of its conference doubleheader at Radford (22-22, 9-6 Big South) on Saturday afternoon, finishing out the weekend series

In the first game of the day, Gardner-Webb dropped a tight, 3-2 contest. The Runnin' Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead but were unable to hold on, surrendering three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning

Gardner-Webb got its runs with one swing. Senior designated player Maggie Knight put a charge into a two-run home run in the second inning, scoring sophomore first baseman Madden McMahan-Waters for a 2-0 lead

The Dawgs turned to senior right-hander Alli Stidham, who continued a great individual streak with another impressive outing. Stidham kept Radford largely at bay for 6.2 innings, allowing just four hits and no earned runs

In the bottom of the seventh, Radford cobbled together its three runs on three hits, two Gardner-Webb errors, and a wild pitch, including two infield hits. The winning run came in for the Highlanders on an infield single to third base

In the second game of the day, GWU was shut out in a 3-0 defeat. Radford scored three early runs off Stidham who otherwise continued to pitch well. She tossed 6.0 innings, allowing seven hits and only two runs as earned

On offense, Gardner-Webb had four hits from four different players, including Stidham, McMahan-Waters, junior left fielder Brooke Freschi and sophomore third baseman Caitlin Colley
