Runnin' Bulldogs Drop Double Overtime Heartbreaker to Presbyterian

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb (1-11, 1-2) women's lacrosse team dropped a double overtime heartbreaker to visiting Presbyterian (4-9, 1-3) by the final of 10-9 on Wednesday evening inside Spangler Stadium.

Gardner-Webb opened the scoring early when McKensie Gehris found the back of the net off an assist from Maddie Tredway, giving the Runnin' Bulldogs an early advantage. After Presbyterian answered, Katie Westbrook restored the lead late in the opening quarter, putting Gardner-Webb ahead 2–1 after the first 15 minutes.

The Runnin' Bulldogs built their momentum in the second quarter. Jules Brown sparked the offense with a goal early in the period before Addi Cook finished a feed from Tredway to push the lead to three. Despite a Presbyterian rally midway through the quarter, Gardner-Webb responded with a key stretch as Emma Duchscherer scored off a Jazmyn Morris assist and Brown added back-to-back goals, including a woman-up score assisted by Cook. The surge gave the Runnin' Bulldogs a 7–4 lead heading into halftime.

Presbyterian began to chip away in the third quarter, but Gardner-Webb answered once again as Westbrook converted a pass from Tredway to extend the advantage to 8–5.

The Blue Hose mounted their comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring three straight goals to even the contest at 8–8. Duchscherer delivered a clutch woman-up goal to put Gardner-Webb back in front, but Presbyterian responded with the equalizer with under two minutes remaining and eventually netted the game-winner in the second overtime period.

Brown led the Runnin' Bulldogs offensively with three goals, while Duchscherer and Westbrook each added two scores. Cook and Gehris each contributed a goal, with Cook also adding an assist. Tredway paced the offense with three assists and dominated the draw circle with a game-high nine draw controls.

Defensively, goalkeeper Emma Anderson turned in a strong performance with 16 saves to keep Gardner-Webb in the game throughout the afternoon.

The Runnin' Bulldogs finished with advantages in draw controls (14–8) while generating nine goals on 23 shots in a back-and-forth battle that remained tight until the final minutes.

Gardner-Webb returns to action on Saturday, April 1 as it travels to take on Radford in a Big South contest. First draw control is slated for 1 p.m.
