Mike Doolittle is in his second season as an assistant coachwith the Gardner-Webb University football program after joining theGWU staff on July 1, 2007.
Doolittle will work with the Bulldogs' defensive line again in2008, after seeing pupil Brian Johnston earn first-team All-Americahonors last season, and become the school's first NFL draft picksince 1995.
Doolittle came to GWU after a successful, 13-year tenure at NinetySix (S.C.) High. one of the most successful prep coaches in SouthCarolina during his career, Doolittle coached the Wildcats to statechampionships in 2000 and 2001 and saw his teams appear in threestate title games. He posted a 106-55 record in 12 seasons at thehelm, and was an assistant coach for the 2005 South Carolina ShrineBowl team.
Doolittle has been familiar with the Gardner-Webb program for sometime. Several of his former players at Ninety Six, includingthree-time All-American safety Mario Williams, spent time with theBulldogs ? with Williams finishing his career as the ninth-leadingtackler in Gardner-Webb history. Williams was named Big SouthDefensive Player of the Year in 2002 and 2003.
Doolittle is a 1977 graduate of Clemson. He and his wife, Fran,have two sons involved in college football. Mitch, a formerquarterback at Presbyterian, is a graduate assistant coach at UAB.Stan is a junior quarterback at Gardner-Webb.
