
Bulldogs Fall to ACC's N.C. State, 3-0

Cary, N.C. - On Wednesday night the Gardner-Webb men's team wrapped up their 2006 regular season play falling to N.C. State Wolfpack 3-0 in non-conference action.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 7-7-3 overall and 2-6-2 in non-conference play. N.C. State improves to 5-9-1 overall.
The Wolfpack notched two of their goals by way of penalty kicks. The first N.C. State goal came at the 25:21 minute mark, when Alan Sanchez scored his seventh goal on the year, putting a penalty kick past GWU keeper Tyler Kettering.
The Wolfpack extended the lead to 2-0 over the Bulldogs when in the 39th minute Jorge Mora took a corner kick and found Haddon Kirk who kept the ball alive in the box, as sophomore Ronnie Bouemboue ran onto it and put in his first score of the season at the 38:36 mark.
The Bulldogs played hard throughout the first half, staying even with the Wolfpack with each team getting off eight shots and putting three apiece on frame.
However, the Bulldogs could not quite get that first score, as the GWU found themselves down 3-0 when at the 80:24 mark, Sanchez scored his second goal of the game on his second penalty kick.
For the match, the Bulldogs more than held
their own against the Wolfpack, out shooting N.C. State 20-19 and
putting 10 shots on frame to the Wolfpack's nine. Sophomore Zach
Burkett put three shots on goal, while Chris Salvaggione, Miguel
Pinzone and Boris Gatzky all had two apiece.
Senior goalkeeper Tyler Kettering stopped six shots for the match.
Gardner-Webb earned the second seed in the upcoming Atlantic Sun Conference Championship tournament held in Deland, Florida beginning on November 2. The Bulldogs received a first round bye and will begin their postseason play on Friday afternoon, November 3, at 4 p.m. when they will face off with the winner of Thursday's match up between #3 Campbell and #6 Mercer.
