A day after facing CCSA foes, the Gardner-Webb women's swim team
again took the top spot in an invitational, finishing first with
105 points while the men's team notched a second-place finish in
the tri-meet with 71 points.
GWU got off to a solid start to the meet by taking the top spot in
the 400 medley relay. The quartet of Corey Hughey, Whitney Hooley,
Stepheni Stadnik and Kelly Gueltig took first with a time of
4:06.39.
In the 200 free, the Bulldogs took the first and third spot,
respectively. Heather Roka won the event by touching in 1:58.20
while Hughey was third in 2:01.18. Rookie sensation Elizabeth
Ketterer won the 50 free in a time of 25.67.
In the 200 IM, Victoria Bryant posted a second-place time of
2:15.97 while Isabel Olivas and Rachel Glenn took fourth and fifth,
respectively.
Roka continued her successful day by placing second in the 200 fly,
garnering a time of 2:09.78. Leslie Hallquist was third in 2:15.26
while Rachel Warkentin placed fourth in 2:16.26.
Hooley, who helped the 400 medley relay to a first-place time, won
an individual event, the 100 free, in a mere 54.95. Sarah Steadman
was fourth in the event with a time of 56.00.
A pack of Bulldogs helped head coach Mike Simpson's team continue
its stranglehold on opponents by notching all three medal positions
in the 200 back. Hughey posted a winning time of 2:12.76. Senior
Grace Whiteside was second in 2:12.93 while Ketterer placed third
in 2:15.44.
Gueltig, a member of the 400 medley relay team, finished first in
the 500 free with a time of 5:17.36. Teammate Carrie Kibler
garnered the third position after touching the wall in 5:23.32.
Olivas and Stepheni Stadnik went two-three in the 200 breast with
solid times of 2:32.46 and 2:32.75, respectively.
Just like they had earlier in the day, the Bulldogs overpowered the
opposition in the relay event. In the 400 free, Hooley, Whiteside,
Bryant and Ketterer tallied a time of 3:45.11 for the 11 points
added to the team score.
On the men's side, the Gardner-Webb team of Kyle Hooley, Saxon
Simpson, Steven Caudill and George Partin finished second in the
400 medley relay with a time of 3:40.57.
Adam Suggs, who has proved to be a dynamic distance swimmer for the
Bulldogs, was just off his record-setting time that he established
last night with a time of 10:10.85. Abram Miller was third with a
time of 10:17.01.
Denaj Seymour continued his solid swimming efforts with a
second-place time of 22.41 in the 50 free.
In the 200 IM, Caudill powered through the event with a time of
2:01.38 for a second-place finish.
Caudill came right back to take the 200 fly title with a time of
2:00.37. Erin Lewis placed third in 2:04.64.
Suggs swam a solid time of 5:04.61 in the 500 free to place first.
George Partin medaled in the event with a third-place finish of
5:10.04.
GWU took the top two spots in the 400 free relay. Seymour, Travis
Gibson, Adam Middleton and Miller garnered the top spot with a time
of 3:29.08 while Suggs, Patrick Williams, Jack Zimmerman and
Michael Roka were second with a time of 3:41.81.
The Bulldogs return to action next weekend at the Davidson
Invitational. The meet spans from Nov. 15-17 in Davidson, N.C.
