Runnin' Bulldogs Romp to 5-Nil Win Over Emory & Henry

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team made it a perfect 2-0 start under new head coach Samantha Thomsit, defeating Emory & Henry on Thursday afternoon behind a four-goal second half
On a warm Thursday afternoon in Boiling Springs, it would take the Runnin' Bulldogs more than a half hour to get on the board, but once they did, the floodgates opened for an eventual 5-0 win.
Freshman Morgan Dewitt opened the scoring for GWU in the 36th minute, taking the ball clean off the foot of the Emory & Henry keeper and putting home the game's first goal.
Holding a 1-0 halftime lead, Gardner-Webb quickly doubled and tripled that lead after the break. Sophomore Julia McBride continued her brilliant form to open the 2026 season, scoring her third goal in two games with a brace in quick order. McBride made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute off the feed from freshman Kylie Williams, then added a second to make it 3-0 with a brilliant solo run.
The Dawgs, well in control by the 83rd minute, added a fourth from freshman Caroline Coles and a fifth from sophomore Paige Frasz back-to-back to lock up a 5-0 lead.
Of the four different goal scorers on Thursday afternoon, three of them - Dewitt, Coles, and Frasz, scored their first collegiate goals and first goals in Gardner-Webb colors. McBride meanwhile, has scored in both games for GWU and has three goals in the opening two games of the campaign.
In the overall stats, Gardner-Webb finished with a 18-7 advantage in shots, and 15-4 in shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Abril Montiel was called on for four saves on the afternoon
