
Three Bulldogs Earn All-Conference Accolades; Monique Hudson Named Freshman Of The Year

MACON, Ga. Although it is the last season that Gardner-Webb is in the Atlantic Sun Conference, it will be a memorable one for three Bulldogs.
Sophomore Margaret Roundtree earned second-team all-conference honors while sisters Dominique Hudson and Monique Hudson garnered all-freshman team accolades, as announced by the Atlantic Sun Conference office. Monique Hudson was thought of so highly by the coaches and media that voted on the awards, she earned Freshman of the Year honors the first such accolade by any GWU women's basketball player in the school's history in the league.
Roundtree netted a career-high 24 points en route to the 75-62 dismantling of Belmont in Paul Porter Arena on Jan. 7, 2008. Her 10 field goals made against the Bruins ranks as the fourth most in a single game in GWU history. She also posted 19 in the victory over Lipscomb in the A-Sun opener on Jan. 5. Roundtree recorded three double-doubles on the year and pulled down season-high 12 boards on two occasions. At Campbell, the Bulldogs' opening-round opponent, she swatted a career-high five shots.
Roundtree has netted 377 points this season and pulled down 213 rebounds. She has already scored over 500 points in her career and is in the top five for a career at GWU in rebounds, offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds. She is averaging a team-best 13.0 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds this season. Her 153 field goals made are a single-season record. Roundtree's 48.6 shooting percentage from the floor is currently the third highest in school history.
Dominique Hudson poured in a career-high 20 in the win over Lipscomb on Jan. 5. In the win, she hit six-of-eight shots for a career-best 75 percent. Her top-four scoring games are all against conference teams. She netted 17 in the regular-season finale at Belmont, tallied 16 in the win at USC Upstate and totaled 15 in the home finale against ETSU.
Hudson's nine free throws made against UNC Asheville are the third-most in a single game in school history. In addition to her 16 points at the Spartans' home, she nearly amassed a triple-double with a career-high eight rebounds and a career-best seven assists to go along with a season-high four steals.
This season, she has tallied 238 points and had 36 steals while pulling down 3.2 rebounds per contest. She is averaging 8.2 points and has dished out a team-best 75 assists.
Rookie of the Year Monique Hudson began her season with the most impressive night in the program's history. She came off the bench to set a school record with nine steals against Montreat. In her second game, she poured in a career-high 23 points against Georgetown. The nine field goals made were the fifth most in a single game in school history. In the victory over the Ospreys, Hudson connected on six-of-seven shots for a career-best 85.7 percent shooting.
In the game against nearby Wofford, Hudson pulled down eight rebounds. She also grabbed seven in the win over Campbell. On Jan. 7, Hudson dished out a career-high eight assists, which is tied for the most in school history. In the same game, she swiped five of Belmont's passes.
For the year, Hudson averaged 10.8 points and had 58 steals, which is the third most in school history for a year while starting 23 games. She was second on the team with 110 made field goals while shooting 44.9 percent. Hudson pulled down 3.7 rebounds per game and dished out 57 assists while netting 309 points on the year.
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday at 12 p.m. CST when they tangle with Campbell for the third consecutive time in quarterfinals action.
