
Gardner-Webb To Host Wrestling Clinic

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. Head wrestling coach Scott Shipman and his staff will host the fifth annual Gardner-Webb Fall Wrestling Clinic on Oct. 4, in the Paul Porter Arena.
The event will feature two-time NCAA National Champion Jeff Prescott and will include two technique sessions, a strength and conditioning presentation, optional live wrestling and the chance to view the GWU wrestling team practice.
Registration will begin at 7:30 and will go until 10 a.m., in the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center on Oct. 4. From 8-10 a.m., the Bulldogs will have an open practice. There, people attending the clinic may view the team.
After the conclusion of the open practice, the staff will teach a technique session in Paul Porter Arena from 10 a.m. until noon. At 12 p.m., everyone will be dismissed to the Dover Campus Center for lunch.
From 1:45-2:15 p.m., assistant strength and conditioning coaches Eric Wood and Jacob Creson will conduct a strength and conditioning presentation for the group.
At 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m., everyone will partake in the second technique session of the day. From 4-4:30 p.m., there will be optional live wrestling for all those in attendance.
From 4:45-5 p.m., there will be a closing and option devotional.
Fees for the clinic are as follows:
Individual Registration before Sept. 27 - $50
Individual Registration after Sept. 27 - $65
Team Price (eight or more)
Before Sept. 27 - $45 (per wrestler)
After Sept. 27 - $60 (per wrestler)
Coach Registration
With a team FREE
Individual - $20
** Teams must have registration mailed in together.
The staff includes Prescott, who was named the NCAA Most Outstanding Wrestler in 1991. Prescott was a three-time NCAA All-American and a four-time U.S. National place-winner. He was also a three-time New York state champion.
In addition to Prescott, Shipman, Daniel Elliott, Josh Pniewski and Richard Wince round out the clinic staff.
Shipman, who is in his second year as the Bulldogs' head coach, was a four-time NCAA All_American and a national champion. He was also a U.S. National place-winner.
Elliott is in his third year with the GWU staff after completing a stellar collegiate career that saw him earn a bid to the NCAA National Championship two times.
Pniewski recently joined the coaching staff as a graduate assistant. He was a three-time NCAA National Qualifier for former GWU coach Richard Wince.
Wince, who coached multiple NCAA Qualifiers during his career at GWU, is now the Director of Wrestling Operations.
