
Gardner-Webb Defeats Georgia Southern and North Florida, Falls to Florida Gulf Coast at Eagle Quad Meet This Weekend

STATESBORO, GA- The Gardner-Webb women's swim team competed this weekend in the 2010 Eagle Quad Meet, taking on Georgia Southern, Florida Gulf Coast, and North Florida Friday and Saturday at the Aquatics Center at the Recreation Activity Center on the campus of Georgia Southern University. The Lady Bulldogs were victorious over Georgia Southern by a score of 189 -152 and North Florida by a 214-123 score, but fell to Florida Gulf Coast by a 216-131 score.
Friday evening, the Lady Bulldogs were victorious in four events. Senior Corey Hughey was placed first in the 100 meter backstroke, timing in at 58.31. Freshman Kim Zachensky was fastest in the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:04.56. Junior Rachel Warkentin touched the wall at 2:06.79 to take first place in the 200 meter butterfly. The team of Hughey, Zachensky, Warkentin, and freshman Elizabeth Charter was victorious in the 400 meter medley relay.
Saturday morning, the Lady Bulldogs placed first in three events. Zachensky timed in fastest in the 200 meter breaststroke with a time of 2:20.52. Warkentin took first place in the 100 meter butterfly with a time of 58.27. The team of junior Victoria Bryant, Zachensky, Warkentin, and Charter won the 200 meter medley relay, timing in at 1:48.28.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Friday, January 22nd when they host College of Charleston in a two-day meet. Friday's events are scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM, and Saturday's events are scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM. All events will take place at the Gardner-Webb Aquatics Center.
