
Gardner-Webb Swimming Participates in Christian College Invite This Past Weekend

WILMORE, Ky. - The Gardner-Webb swim team participated in the Christian College Invitational, an exhibition event to prepare for the upcoming 2010-11 season, this past weekend, hosted by Asbury University in Wilmore, Ky. Participants from Gardner-Webb, Asbury, and Malone University participated in the event Saturday afternoon.
Runnin' Bulldog swimmers placed first in 16 of the 30 events of the day, with the women taking nine events and the men seven.
Freshman Jordan Denmark won three events, which tied for the most by any individual at the event. He won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 59.57, the 200 yard backstroke in 1:56.29, and the 200 yard IM with a time of 1:59. 75.
Freshmen Faith Kempf and Samantha Shelley, and senior Victoria Bryant also won multiple events at the meet. Kempf placed first in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:42.96 and the 200 yard butterfly at 2:12.70. Shelley won the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:08.49 and the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:16.47. Bryant was victorious in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.30 and the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:15.49.
Also earning individual victories for Gardner-Webb were Elizabeth Ketterer, Anna Springer, Ava Caulkins, Steven Caudill, George Partin, Casey Brutus, and D.J. Hughes.
Gardner-Webb will next be in action this Saturday morning as they host UNC Wilmington. The meet is set to take place at 10:00 AM at the Gardner-Webb Aquatics Center, with the meet set to help raise awareness for breast and colon cancer. Donations will be accepted at the meet for various cancer research charities.
