
Men's Swimming Finishes Second Overall at CCSA Championships

KNOXVILLE, TN - The 2009-10 season wrapped up for the Gardner-Webb men's swimming team this week as the team finished in second place at the 2010 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championships at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatics Center in Knoxville, TN.
The Bulldogs set a new CCSA record during the three-day meet, as Steven Caudill set the new mark in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:49.19.
Thursday night, the action kicked off with the 200 yard freestyle relay, in which the team of Kevin Koenig, George Partin, Collin Burchins, and DJ Hughes finishing third with a time of 1:23.45. In the 500 yard freestyle, Tyler Nuss timed in at 4:40.00 to finish fourth overall, and Chris Musco and Adam Suggs finished in seventh and eighth, with times of 4:45.86 and 4:45.88 respectively.
In the 200 yard IM, Steven Caudill finished fourth with a time of 1:52.25, Collin Burchins finished sixth with a time of 1:55.94, and Samuel Woods finished seventh with a time of 1:56.08. In the 50 yard freestyle, Kevin Koenig timed in at third place with a time of 20.91. In the 400 yard medley relay, the team of Samuel Woods, Collin Burchins, Steven Caudill, and George Partin finished third overall with a time of 3:22.82.
Friday evening, in the 200 yard medley relay, the team of Samuel Woods, Casey Brutus, Steven Caudill, and Kevin Koenig finished in second place with a time of 1:32.23. In the 400 yard IM, Tyler Nuss finished in fourth place with a time of 4:09.31 and Adam Suggs placed in seventh, timing in at 4:13.38. In the 100 yard butterfly, Steven Caudill timed in at second at 49.54, Adam Middleton came in fourth with a time of 50.74, and DJ Hughes finished fifth with a time of 51.07.
George Partin timed in fifth quickest in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:43.67. Mitch Turner came in sixth with a time of 1:43.79, and Chris Musco finished eighth with a time of 1:44.54. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Casey Brutus finished in second with a time of 55.93, while Drew Ellwanger and Collin Burchins finishd in third and fourth, with times of 57.74 and 57.78 respectively. In the 100 yard backstroke, Samuel Woods touched the wall in third place, with a time of 52.36. Tyler Revels finished in sixth with a time of 53.34 and Matthew Leonard finished eighth with a time of 54.27. In the 800 yard freestyle relay, the team of DJ Hughes, Steven Caudill, Mitch Turner, and George Partin finished in third overall, with a time of 7:05.84.
Saturday evening, in the 1650 yard freestyle, Tyler Nuss finished second overall with a time of 16:09.35, Adam Suggs timed in third at 16:11.93, and Derek Gore finished fifth with a time of 16.29.04. In the 200 yard backstroke, Chris Musco touched the wall at 1:53.62 to place in third, Derek Gore finished seventh with a time of 1:57.87, and Samuel Woods came in eighth with a time of 2:01.07. In the 200 yard breaststroke, Casey Brutus timed in at 2:03.99 to finish in third place, while Collin Burchins and Drew Ellwanger came in fourth and fifth with times of 2:04.83 and 2:09.86 respectively.
Steven Caudill was victorious in the 200 yard butterfly, timing in at 1:49.19, setting a new CCSA record in the process. Adam Middleton finished second with a time of 1:53.46, DJ Hughes finished fifth with a time of 1:54.89, and Seth Carter placed in eighth with a time of 1:58.30.
