
Hearne's 10 Saves Leads Runnin' Bulldogs to Scoreless Tie With Appalachian State Friday Evening

BOONE, N.C. - After 110 minutes of play, Friday's match between the Gardner-Webb women's soccer team and Appalachian State ended in a scoreless tie, with junior goalkeeper Chelsea Hearne recording ten saves for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Appalachian State (3-3-1) attacked throughout the 90 minutes of regulation, putting eight shots on goal. Meggie Graham led the way for the Mountaineers, putting three shots on goal during regulation, yet none were able to get past Hearne.
Gardner-Webb (3-3-2) put two shots on goal during regulation, with both coming within the first 25 minutes of the match. Redshirt sophomore Sonja Kienzler attempted a header during the 11th minute of play following a corner kick by junior Megan Tremblay, but was unable to find the back of the net. Freshman Arielle McCarthy attempted to put a shot past ASU keeper Caroline Clark during the 25th minute of action, but Clark made the save.
During the two overtime periods, the Runnin' Bulldogs were able to put three shots on goal, but were unable to score, with sophomore Taylor Napoli, junior Megan Reimer, and senior Melissa Battista attempting to find the back of the net, yet were unable to put the ball past Clark.
Friday's match was the fifth match of the season that Hearne shut out the opposing team's offense. Her goals-allowed average for the season currently stands at a stellar 0.55 per match.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action Sunday afternoon as they host Georgia State. The match is set to begin at 2:00 PM at Greene-Harbison Field.
