
Runnin' Bulldogs Drop 2-1 Decision to Georgia State Sunday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team fell to Georgia State Sunday afternoon by a 2-1 score at Greene-Harbison Field
Georgia State (6-2-1) got on the board first, when sophomore midfielder Jocelyn Baker was able to send a shot past GWU junior goalkeeper Chelsea Hearne during the 20th minute of play. Freshman forward Jewel Evans was credited with the assist.
The Panthers scored another goal late in the second half when junior midfielder Lindsay Mortellaro found the back of the net, assisted by Evans.
Gardner-Webb (3-4-1) was able to score during the 87th minute when junior forward Megan Reimer put the ball past GSU junior goalkeeper Kellianne Collins. The goal was the third of the season for the Hamilton, Ohio native, and was assisted by freshmen Meagan Reynolds and Megan Loftin.
Both teams showed intensity and played extremely physical at times. Heare was given a yellow card during the 3rd minute of play and senior midfielder Sarah Keyser was given a red card during the 80th minute of play. Georgia State's Lyndsey Gaffney and the sideline were also given yellow cards during the match.
Senior Heidi Blankenship (6-2-1) was given the win for the Panthers in goal, recording three saves during the first half of play. Hearne (3-2-2) was given the loss, tallying six saves throughout the match.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will next be in action this Friday afternoon as they travel to our nation's capital to face George Washington. The match is set to begin at 4:00 PM at the Mount Vernon Athletic Fields in Washington, D.C.
