
Gardner-Webb Falls on the Road to UNC-Wilmington in Season's First Dual Meet

Wilmington, N.C. - Gardner-Webb men's swimming competed in its first dual meet of the season Saturday, falling at UNC-Wilmington 152 - 102.
Drew Ellwanger picked up a win for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the 200 breast, touching the wall at 2:13.77. The junior from Newborn, Ga. was followed by teammate Collin Burchins, whose second place finish in 2:13.85 gave GWU a 1-2 finish in the event.
Sophomore Sam Wilson held off UNCW's Nathan Walters to finish second in the 1000 free. Wilson's time of 10:06.30 led the Runnin' Bulldogs on the day.
In the 100 back, Jordan Denmark picked up a second place finish with a time of 54.21. The sophomore from Raleigh, N.C. also swam the second fastest time in the 200 IM, touching in at 2:00.78.
Ellwanger picked up another top two finish in the 100 breast, finishing in 59.37 for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
The 200 medley relay consisting of Samuel Woods, Burchins, D.J. Hughes, and Cole Hickey led GWU with a third place finish, touching in at 1:37.81. In the 200 free relay, the combination of Hickey, Hughes, Denmark, and Ellwanger was tops for Gardner-Webb, finishing in 1:30.93.
Gardner-Webb will next be in action on Saturday, October 29, as GWU will host new program Queens in a meet slated to begin at 10 am.
