Gardner-Webb Swimming Readies for Wingate Fall Frenzy Nov. 18-20
November 15, 2011 | Swimming
Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's men's and women's swim teams are set to compete at their midseason invitational of the 2011-12 season at the Wingate Fall Frenzy in Charlotte, N.C. Nov. 18-20.
Gardner-Webb women's swimming holds a 3-2 dual meet record this season while the Runnin' Bulldog men are 1-2 on the year.
On the women's side, GWU has seen a strong effort thus far from its freshmen and sophomore classes. Gardner-Webb's youth led them to recent wins over Campbell, NC A&T, and VMI, as freshmen Charity Byrum (Winston Salem, N.C.), CJay Wiley (Savannah, Ga.), and Jenna Ballinger (Lexington, Kent.) as well as sophomore Faith Kempf (Sterling, Kan.) all won individual events.
For the men, depth has been the key to success as sixteen different Runnin' Bulldogs have recorded CCSA top 16 times. Like the women, Gardner-Webb's men's swim team is coming off a home win, posting its first win of the 2011-12 season by handling the VMI Keydets 152-102. Seven swimmers won individual events, led by junior Drew Ellwanger (Newborn, Ga.) who placed first in both the 100 and 200 BR.
The Wingate Fall Frenzy will begin Friday evening at 7:30 pm. Prelims on both Saturday and Sunday will begin at 10 am with finals starting at 6 pm and 5 pm respectively. Results will be available at the Wingate athletic website www.wingatebulldogs.com.
