Boiling Springs, N.C. - The competition season for the Gardner-Webb men's and women's swim teams gets under way this Saturday as the Runnin' Bulldogs travel to Moss Lake, N.C. for the Western Carolina Open Water Challenge.
GWU has been preparing for the 2011 season since March, via off-season training both in the pool and out, and recently began organized workouts.
"We are excited to get a first competition in, and the open water meet is the perfect way to get started," said head men's and women's coach Mike Simpson. "Our first three weeks of practice have gone extremely well, and the coaching staff loves the team chemistry that has developed over that short period of time.
"This is our second year swimming in this local meet, which is held in a fantastic venue at Moss Lake, and is run extremely well by the Sharks Aquatic Club," coach Simpson added.
GWU swimming will look to get off to a good start Saturday and set the foundation for another successful year in the CCSA Conference.
