
GWU Men's Swimming Finishes in Fourth Place After Final Day of Wingate Fall Frenzy

Charlotte, N.C. - Gardner-Webb men's swimming wrapped up a successful weekend in its final invitational for the Fall season, achieving 535.5 points for a 4th place finish at the Wingate Fall Frenzy.
GWU finished ahead of 5th place Catawba (319.5) and trailed host Wingate (3rd, 606), College of Charleston (2nd, 679.5), and Queens (1st (861).
Freshman Luke Denman continued a breakout weekend with a lifetime best in the 1650 free. The Greenville, S.C. native placed 2nd in the event with a time of 16:07.36.
Two top eight finishers paced GWU in the men's 200 back. Junior Jordan Denmark (Raleigh, N.C.) was 5th with a season best time of 1:50.96, and freshman Nathan Lile (Waynesville, N.C.) trailed closely in 6th with a season best time of 1:51.01.
Junior Taft Kallam (Randleman, N.C.) added a 10th place finish for the Runnin' Bulldog men, achieving a season best of 1:56.55.
In the 100 free, sophomore Joe MacGregor (Brooksville, Fla.) and freshman Andy Watts (Sarasota, Fla.) made finals appearances in finishing 15th and 20th, achieving season best times of 47.68 and 48.80 during the event.
Senior Mitch Turner (Acworth, Ga.) led Gardner-Webb in the men's 200 breast with a personal best time of 2:17.04. Turner moved up three spots in finals to achieve the Top 10 finish.
Freshman Ryan Palmer (Wrentham, Mass.) took 13th in the 200 breast, scoring valuable points for the Gardner-Webb men. Palmer achieved a season best time of 2:21.05 during prelims of the event.
Three Runnin' Bulldogs cracked the Top 8 in the men's 200 fly, led by senior DJ Hughes' (Snellville, Ga.) 4th place finish. Hughes timed in at a season best 1:53.43 during event prelims, and was followed by 5th and 7th place finishes from Tate Warden (Charleston, W.V.) and Cody Meyers (Mobile, Ala.) respectively, as the pair swam season best times of 1:54.83 and 1:56.01 respectfully.
The GWU men closed the night with a 5th place finish in the 400 free relay, achieving a season best time of 3:08.25 in the event. Lile (47.01), Warden (46.52), Denmark (47.13), and MacGregor (47.59) combined for the Runnin' Bulldogs' best performance of the season to date.
Gardner-Webb men's swimming will turn its attention to its winter training regimen prior to returning to meet action in January. GWU's next meet comes on January 11 in its home opener against Limestone.
