
Gardner-Webb Men's Swimming Finishes in Second Place at Wingate Quad Meet

Charlotte, N.C. - Gardner-Webb men's swimming achieved a second place team finish at the Wingate Quad meet, achieving 864.5 points over the Nov. 1-2 invitational.
Gardner-Webb earned a second place team standing after finishing day one with 402 points. The host team, Wingate, finished Friday's session in first place (402), while Washington & Lee (229), Catawba (182), and Lenoir Rhyne (116) rounded out the top five after day one.
The Runnin' Bulldog men opened the night with a 2nd place finish in the men's 200 free relay, as the quartet of Dyer (22.29), Lile (20.98), Linzie (22.08), and McKay (21.47) achieved a time of 1:26.82, just .29 behind Wingate's 1st place finish.
Nathan Lile produced a win for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the men's 200 I.M., as the sophomore outraced the field to pull away and finish first with a time of 1:55.09. Junior Brandon Searle added a 5th place finish (2:00.16), and senior Cody Meyers (2:02.19) tacked on a 7th place showing for Gardner-Webb in the event.
In the men's 500 free, sophomore Luke Denamn led GWU with a 2nd place finish, pacing his way to a time of 4:44.78. Fellow sophomore Tate Warden raced to a 5th place finish (4:48.11), and GWU also took 8th, 9th, and 10th in the event from the performances of Sam Wilson (4:54.23), Taft Kallam (4:55.00), and Hal McKay (4:55.54).
Freshman Andrew Linzie stepped in to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs in the men's 100 breast, achieving a season best time of 1:02.83 in the event. Sophomore Ryan Palmer (1:05.86) and freshman Josh Hanson (1:06.40) finished in 14th and 15th place, respectively, for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the event.
Lile (Waynesville, N.C.) cracked the top 2 for the second time on the night, placing 2nd in a tight race with Wingate's Marko Blazevski in the men's 200 back with a time of 1:53.94. Freshman Connor Bos (7th) and senior Taft Kallam (10th) also recorded top 10 finishes in the 200 back, timing in at 1:57.50 and 2:01.08, respectively.
In the next event, the men's 100 free, McKay (Birmingham, Ala.) raced to a 3rd place finish to lead the Runnin' Bulldog contingent in the event. The freshman finished in 47.98, and was joined in the top 10 of the event by sophomore Joe MacGregor (4th, 48.18), freshman Nicholas Dyer (t5th, 48.41), and junior Brandon Searle (7th, 49.19).
The men's 200 fly saw three Runnin' Bulldogs register top 10 performances, led by Lile's 3rd place finish (1:56.14). Meyers (Mobile, Ala.) placed 5th with a time of 1:59.44, and Warden (Charleston, W. Va.) took 10th with a time of 2:02.98.
GWU closed the night with a 5th place finish in the 400 medley relay, getting a time of 3:36.88 from Connor Bos (53.29), Linzie (1:02.31), Searle (52.88), and MacGregor (48.40).
To open the day on Saturday, Gardner-Webb won the men's 200 medley relay. Bos (24.45), Searle (27.23), Warden (23.51), and Dyer (22.15) teamed up for the first place finish in a time of 1:37.34.
Denman (Greenville, S.C.) maintained GWU's momentum by closing fast for a time of 9:46.13. Denman, who held off Wingate's Makis Jorgensen (9:46.58), was joined in the top 5 of the event by freshman Josh Hanson (Acworth, Ga.), who timed in at 10:33.66.
In the men's 50 free, Dyer tied for 5th place to lead GWU in the event. Dyer's time of 22.21 tied Wingate's Lucas Cardros, and the Runnin' Bulldog rookie was joined in the top 10 by MacGregor (7th, 22.26) and fellow freshman Linzie (8th, 22.32).
Gardner-Webb also put three in the top of the men's 200 back, led by another freshman in Bos, who finished 4th in a season best 53.31. Warden followed in 5th (53.82) and Kallam (Randleman, N.C.) finished 7th (54.55) in the event.
In the men's 200 breast, Linzie placed 10th to lead Gardner-Webb, touching the wall at 2:20.40. Palmer achieved 11th place in the event by finishing with a time of 2:21.61.
Searle (Melbourne, Fla.) gave Gardner-Webb a first place finish in the men's 100 fly, starting fast to achieve a season best time of 52.22. McKay (6th, 53.67), Warden (7th, 53.88), and Meyers (9th, 54.77) added valuable points in a deep event for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
In the men's 200 free, MacGregor (4th) paced Gardner-Webb, achieving a time of 1:47.22 to lead his team in the event. GWU poured it on in the back half of the top 10, also occupying 6th (Dyer, 1:48.64), 7th (Kallam, 1:49.46), 8th (Wilson, 1:49.53), and 10th (McKay (1:50.42) in the event.
In the 400 I.M., Lile led GWU with a 2nd place finish, timing in at 4:08.94. Meyers placed 5th in the event with a time of 4:21.58, and Wilson (7th, 4:23.59) and Denman (8th, 4:23.62) also made the top 10 of the event.
The meet's final event saw Gardner-Webb finish in 2nd place, as Lile (47.13), McKay (48.08), MacGregor (47.87), and Warden (47.49) combined for a time of 3:09.36 in the men's 400 free relay.
Gardner-Webb men's swimming returns to action Saturday, November 9 to host the VMI Relay meet.
